God Comes To Us

Looking at today's bible reading, I was quickly reminded of Sunday's message and how God Comes to us in our Quiet Times. I hope you are setting aside some time each day to seek the Lord, hear from Him and read His word. Jesus was very clear to us that:

John 8:32
"...you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (NIV)

It is His heart and "truth" that we all enjoy a relationship with God. He has come to us. Take a look at today's reading:

Scripture:

Isaiah 9: 2, 6 & 7 - Hebrews 8:10
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Hebrews 8:10

This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God,
and they will be my people. (NIV)

Observation:

It is God's heart that we know Him and walk with Him. It is God's heart that a Savior would be born for us since we could not save ourselves. He would not simply save us (as great as that is) but he would be all that we would need for life itself. He would be our Counselor - when we lost our way or needed wisdom. He would be our Mighty God - when we enter the battlefields of life or face a problem with insurmountable odds. He would be our Everlasting Father - the quality of His heart and love would be "fatherly" towards us. He would be the Prince of Peace - providing us with peace with God (our relationship with the Lord) and the peace of God - comforting our soul. God would come to us and meet our needs in each moment of our lives. It is God's heart that longs for us to be with Him and to care for each one of us. His heart seen in the prophecy of Isaiah carries into the words we find in Hebrews today: I will take my law and place it in their minds and upon their hearts (He will come to us to do this) and He will be our God and we will be His people. This is His heart - He is ours and we are His.

Application:

From before the foundation of the Earth - God was coming to us. It was His heart to provide us with a Savior and He gave us Jesus. May we never become so busy and distracted that we miss this incredible gift in all it's splendor and simplicity. It is Jesus in the manger (a child born) it is God desirous that no one live in darkness. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
(Isaiah 9:2) Jesus is our light that has come - God comes to us! May we not miss His light today and His power to be all that we need. He is ours and we are His. Continue to spend time with Him and as we saw Sunday:

“In practice we often find ourselves to be “thirsty” Christians: either because we are failing to drink or because God is stretching our capacity for Himself and we need to drink more deeply.” - Todd Wendorff

Prayer:
Lord, help me to never forget the gift of life you have given through Jesus and your original design and intent for me - to be your and have you be mine! May I come to you as the Lord you are with all your abilities to heal me, touch me, guide me and provide me with protection. You are mighty and yet you Come to Me - help me to thirst for you and grow in my capacity to contain more and more of who you are. Amen
