This morning as I gathered with various pastors from Lompoc for prayer (here at LFC) I began by reading the following scriptures.
Psalm 90: 1, 2 and 14
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. (NIV)
Our prayer time was punctuated by moments of praying for those dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane and the many workers who need refreshing in the midst of overwhelming fatique and heart ache. I was so proud of LFC and how we gave generously this past Sunday -without passing the "plate" but simply making the Hurricane Relief box availalbe. Over 6,300 dollars came in this past week and is already on its way to the field. Thank you for your generous hearts. The box will be there again this Sunday and I will update you as word comes to me. I did recieve a phone call today from Glenn Burris, our national Foursquare supervisor who was in Louisiana. He will be calling me later in the week with an update and I will post it here.
Please continue to pray......
Prayer
The Rev. Billy Graham said, “I pray especially for the hundreds of thousands who have become refugees because of what has happened. The flood of refugees may be one of the greatest challenges our society has ever faced. It is clear that it will take years for thousands of lives to return to normal. Once again, Americans are showing that they are the most compassionate people in the world. Scores of organizations and thousands of churches and individuals are involved in opening their arms of love and compassion to these refugees. It may be the greatest opportunity to demonstrate God’s love in this generation.” Eddie Smith of the U.S. Prayer Center offered, “As we pray for the concerns of those in the hurricane-stricken area, let’s not overlook the concerns of God. His loving heart is broken over their devastation. He wants them restored. But as with Israel at the Red Sea, His name and kingdom glory is top priority with Him. Perhaps this is our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to partner with Him at such a strategic level.”
Even as Christians remain prayerful and sacrificially, officials cautioned donors to beware of scams and those claiming to operate under the umbrella of Christian organizations by checking the CEN website (www.centoday.com), the ministry websites, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (www.ecfa.org), MinistryWatch.com (www.MinistryWatch.com), and Guidestar (www.guidestar.org). Blessing upon you all, Pastor Bernie
