Scripture:
Psalm 113 & Psalm 127
1 Praise the LORD. Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD. 2 Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore. 3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised. 4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. 5 Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, 6 who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. This past Sunday reminded me of today's bible reading and how worthy God is of our praise - especially as our youth worship team led our congregation in worship and as we celebrated communion together. The scripture tells us that all the servants of the Lord are to praise His name and this call has nothing to do with geography or gender or age - but all to do with heart. For several years I have desired to see us (at times) move into multi-generational worship teams, ministry teams etc. This is what we saw this past Sunday and I was excited to say the least.
Our Lord is to be praised each day - from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets - in the times in between and in the places in between the rising and the falling of the sun.
Okay, you know this already - but what propels us into His presence is what the Psalmist states so clearly:
Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?
It is God who cares for us and stoops down to touch our lives with His heart, grace and mercy. It is God who builds us up - and unless He builds we build in vain. Unless He watches over us we cannot watch over ourselves - but the truth is, our God watches over us and that is why we should Praise Him all the more. I am so grateful for what God is doing at LFC and how people are stepping up to use their gifts to serve Him. It was evident in how our young people led us in worship, (some on the platform for the very first time) how our children's dance team danced unto the Lord, how our ushers served us communion and in the heart of the message: Christ is the center of our Christianity. Our religion is based on a person: Jesus Christ and that is what makes Christianity different. So we serve the Lord who watches over us, who builds us up, who is worthy of our praise. May the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to bring you our praise. May the name of the Lord be praised - now, by me and by us, today by all and tomorrow and forevermore. You deserve the praise of all, everywhere and for all time.
Amen.
